I gathered up a list of youtube videos showing the 2012 BMW M5 F10 against some of the fastest saloon cars and supercars out there. Most interesting videos, i believe are those against the BMW E60 M5 and M6(previous V10 models), the Audi RS6 (a model which kinda was always faster than the equivalent M5 in drag races, due to the turbocharged engines), the Ferrari 458 Italia (best supercar of 2011 and a benchmark for me).
As a reminder, here are the M5 full technical specifications list:

What is a BMW M car? What is it difference between a normal standard BMW and a BMW M? To find these answers and much more, watch the below video describing what’s all about with the BMW M performance division and how these masterpieces are created from plan to final delivery.
M cars are the best cars that BMW produce and uniquely combine power, agility and innovation, unlike any other vehicle because all M cars are severely test, not by computers but by most skillful BMW drivers and engineers on the roads of the Alps and on tracks, like the famous Nordschleife-Nurburgring. As an example, an M5 has almost 80% of the parts different than a normal 5 series BMW : wheels, suspension, brakes, engine, exhaust, air intakes, differential etc.
Any BMW fan would like to own at least, once in lifetime, one of the BMW M models. An M car is simply the best balance between a true sports car and an everyday comfortable and spacious saloon automobile.
Established in May 1972 with just eight employees, it grew to 400 employees by 1988, and is currently an integral part of BMW’s market presence. The first racing project was BMW’s 3.0 CSL.
After the success of BMW M products like BMW 3.0 CSL in racing venues and the growing market for high performance sports cars, M introduced cars for sale to the public. The first official M-badged car for sale to the public was the M1, revealed at the Paris Motor Show in 1978. The M1, however, was more of a racecar in domestic trim than an everyday driver. The direction of the M cars changed with the 1979 release of the M535i, which was a high performance version of BMW’s popular 5 Series mid-size sedan.
Along with the special Performance edition for the M5 F10, BMW UK has released new photos and a video with the unique and invidual paint color in Frozen Blue, Frozen Red and Frozen White to be produced in a limited number of 30 cars. The main part of each M5 M Performance Edition model is the matte paint color (which BMW calls it “Frozen”). Only ten units of each color will be produced, for the total of 30 cars.
THe M Performance Parts catalog is available also for the F20 1 series, F30 3 series, and F10 5 series, but not so far for the M cars. From the gallery below, the M unique features can be spotted as being the following: glossy black 20″ factory wheels, M Performance black kidney grilles and side gills trim, as well as a beautiful alcantara steering wheel and contrast high quality stitching throughout the interior (blue stitching for Frozen Blue, white stitching for Frozen White, and orange/red stitching for Frozen Red). Usually this kind of invididualy comes in Italian super cars like Lamborghini or Ferrari. The dash trim is inscribed with a “Number X of 30 M Performance Edition”. We also hope the full M Performance Parts catalog will also include upgrades for suspension, brakes, and more exterior and interior dress-up parts.
The price label for the unique M5 has been set to a whopping £95,140 in UK, more than £22,000 over the standard M5 price, but beside the performance parts, the car comes with more optional features as standard.
White and silver BMW F11 M550d models have been spotted in public in the Belgium-Netherlands region. F11 is the touring version for the F10 latest 5 series model, while the M550d badge means the car is powered by the most powerful and most high-tech Diesel engine in the world. The engine is booster by three turbochargers to a total output of 381 horsepower and 740 NM of torque.
All M550d cars are fitted with the M aerodynamic and dynamic packages. The wheels are 20 inches and look great in combination with the M exterior package.

A new tuning package has been released for the BMW F10 M5. This time the aerodynamic package and tuning kit comes from 3D Design. The 3D Design tuning kit for the F10 M5 features a robust line of carbon fiber aerodynamic accessories including a front spoiler lip, side skirts, low splitters, wider rear diffuser, and trunk spoiler. The F10 M5 line will not stop at the aerodynamic portion of the brand. 3D Design will have their trademark exhaust system developed with Arqray as a technology partner. Currently the exhaust will be made available in stainless steel with quad 100mm tips providing a aggressiveness that suits the elegance of their rear diffuser. The exhaust will be made available in both a JASMA spec as well as Export spec.
The goal of 3D Design is not to hit a couple areas really well. As a entity consumed by perfection the purpose of every vehicle is to have the most comprehensive program for the given chassis. No exceptions were made for the F10 M5. In working with their technology partner Ohlins for suspension components 3D Design will have a full suspension line and is working on a external reservoir race application. The already luxurious interior of the M5 will be further enhanced by 3D Designs trademark pedal set, floor mats, and a gauge pod for more serious applications.
Unlike the M5 E60, which had an outstanding engine/exhaust sound produced by one of the best BMW engines ever, the famous 5.0 liters V10 naturally aspirated engine, the 2012 M5 F10 has under the bonnet a 4.4 liters turbocharged smaller unit. In terms of performance this new block, has immense power and torque output, and it’s a high revving block with linear and instaneous acceleration, with most of the 680 NM of torque available from just 1500 rpm. But it lacks the sporty feeling when being floored. Most of the M5 fans seem to be upset about the fact that the sound feeling has been almost completely ignored by the BMW engineers.
In this direction, the BMW M division engineers, have developed a new technology for the M5, to produce a louder and sportier engine sound in the cabin, by adding a new sound layer in the car’s audio system. This technology is called Active sound, and tries to enhance the sound, by giving a more burble V8 feeling.
BMW claims the system provides an “extremely accurate impression of current engine load” and that the sound has been optimized to spread across the entire cabin. Not only that, but when Sport or Sport+ is engaged, the sound inside the M5 is enhanced and perfectly sequenced with induction, engine and exhaust noises
One of the BMW M5 F10 owners has decided to check, what would be the difference in the cabin, if the active sound is disabled by pulling the Fuse #200 rated 40 amps, from the fuses box, located in the right side of the trunk, near the battery.
An M5 F10 in Frozen silver matte paint color has been spotted on the streets. Beside the BMW individual paint color, this M5 has been fitted with M performance aerodynamic parts. The carbon fiber trunk spoiler, the sideskirts, and kidney grilles are all unique M Performance Parts. This M5 has also been fitted with gloss black gill trim and the exhaust tips have been turned to black.
